At IFLAC, the German language classes and the course syllabus have been developed in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment, abbreviated as CEFR.
Beginners Diploma A1
This course is designed for complete beginners and for those with very little knowledge of German. You will be introduced to the basic structure and grammar of the German language and culture. You will be trained to write, comprehend, speak the German language and respond accordingly when spoken to in BASIC German. The course is a systematically structured one that involves a learning process utilizing textbooks and work books, visual aids, and audio files.
Course Objective
After the completion of this course you will be able to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
On completion of this level you will be able to:
understand and use frequently used expressions concerning areas of everyday life, e.g. you are able to give information about yourself and your family
communicate in simple routine situations during which you have to directly exchange information on familiar subjects
describe with the aid of simple means your own background and education and your immediate environment and needs
go shopping, describe your work and close environment
express yourself adequately in familiar, everyday situations and to read and understand simple texts
The course also prepares the student for the Start Deutsch 1 Exam of the Goethe-Institut.
The German Elementary Diploma A2 bases on the basic knowledge of A1 and completes and enlarges the knowledge and the ability in the usage of the German language. The course will also refresh and/or build up your existing knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.
The German Basic Course B1 is based on a good knowledge of the previous two levels and competes and enlarges the knowledge and the ability in the usage of the German language.
Grammatical Prerequisites
imperfect tense, perfect tense, nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, adjective declension, subordinate clauses, direct and indirect subordinate clauses, prepositions.
Course Objectives
After completing Intermediate Course B1 the student should have a good command of the fundamentals of German grammar and be in the position to participate in simple discussions and to understand simple texts, including the main points of short press articles. He/she consolidates and revises basic grammar structures and learns to discuss interesting topics. Main topics include: Travel & tourism, employment and the working world, school, education, history, politics & culture, literature.
On completion of this level you will be able to:
understand the main points when clear, standard language is used and the focus is on familiar topics associated with work, school, leisure time, etc.
deal with most situations typically encountered when travelling in the language region
express yourself simply and coherently regarding familiar topics and areas of personal interest.
report on experiences and events, describe dreams, hopes and goals as well as make short statements to justify or explain your own views and plans.
